0-headshot_1

Hey Ya’ll,

I’m happy to announce that my business partner Jaime and I have been listed as two of the Top 35 event designers in North America by BizBash.

Jaime and I have been working together for over four years now. We’ve designed spaces for movie premieres, product launches, non-profit events, and green-minded events.

0-eventThe YourBash! creation featured in the BizBash Top 35 list is the V.I.P. tent we designed for the Teen Choice Awards (above). We used the show’s colorful surfboard award as the inspiration for this space. We’re also really proud of the design we came up with for FOX’s American Idol party celebrating this season’s Top 10 contestants, which took place just last week. Check out some photos from the event below:

YourBash! Designs Featured on The Food Network Special: ‘Wedding Impossible’ THIS Saturday!

Photograph by Mark Peterson via foodnetwork.com

Hey Ya’ll,

Last June, I blogged about a rehearsal dinner that I designed and produced via my business Your Bash! (click HERE to read that post), and I mentioned that the entire wedding would be airing as a television special on The Food Network in August. Today, I’m giving you a behind-the-scenes look at the gorgeous event and inviting you to tune-in on Saturday!

Sneak peek at the YourBash! design for the rehearsal dinner, which took place poolside at The Solage Resort and Spa…

The The Food Network special entitled “Wedding Impossible” will air this Saturday, August 18, at 10pm/9c, and will cover the wedding of Restaurant Impossible host Robert Irvine and Gail Kim, the reigning title-holder of the TNA (Total Nonstop Action) Women’s Knockout Championship.

Delicious appetizers for the hungry wedding party before the poolside rehearsal dinner…

The dinner took place around the pool at Solbar, and with the help of Morgan and Joe in the events department at the Solage Resort and Spa, we created a really beautiful space for the couple and their friends to enjoy a lovely poolside meal.

You’ll also get to see Robert and Gail exchange vows in this tree-lined clearing in front of the vineyard at Charles Krug winery in St. Helena, CA.

And seeing as how it’s The Food Network, you can also expect lots of talk about the epic wedding menu prepared by Chef Michael Chiarello.

I’m so excited for you to watch how everything came together in this special. After you watch, please let me know what you thought of the rehearsal dinner in particular, as well as the wedding ceremony and reception. Enjoy!

How to Plan a Green Wedding!

Hey Ya’ll,

One of the biggest changes I’ve noticed over the last few years, in both industry professionals and the clients we work with, is that to the newest generation approaching adulthood, AKA the Millenials, the idea of “going green” is something that they expect as a matter of course. And while I may be a tad older than the Millenials, I too am a huge proponent of producing green events and doing my part to be good to our planet, so I am happy this is starting to become the norm!

Today, I’m shedding some light on how easy it is to throw an eco-friendly wedding that is not granola and burlap, but stunning and elegant! Here are a few tips that are so easy, you may not even know that you are helping to save the planet.

I’m Hungry:
One of the easiest places to begin your eco-friendly journey is the menu. Just asking that the items presented on your menu are grown locally (within 100 miles), organic, pesticide free and including only free-range meat, you have just done a little greening and without even lifting a finger to to exercise your right to health. Making delicious yet smart food choices food on your big day will make a huge impact not only on your guests, but also on the environment.

Divide and Conquer:
Weddings and events always produce a lot of waste. One way that you can cut back on waste, is by inquiring with the venue you choose as to whether they separate the trash into compostable, biodegradable and recyclable bins. If the venue doesn’t participate in some sort of greening effort, there are waste management companies that will drop off a dumpster at the location, and all of the trash you put into the dumpster will be separated and distributed to their proper locations. Otherwise, you should try to create a recycling system of your own, using bins and signs to help guests understand what goes where!

Flower Power:
Second to the wedding dress, flowers are synonymous with weddings, so if you want fresh cut flowers, find a florist that uses blooms from local and/or organic farms. If you are really feeling green, decorate with potted plants, orchids and flowers that will last much longer. These non-cut arrangements can be recycled after the wedding as a party favor to be a lasting reminder of the special day.

Evite vs. Invite:
I still believe that for a formal occasion like a wedding, a formal invitation through the mail is the way to go. Paper choices today can be stunning as well as eco-friendly and processed without chlorine; some even have seeds embedded in them that can be planted after it is received, and soy based inks that will do the print job beautifully. To save paper, use a postcard (no envelope) for the reply card. Encourage your guests to recycle their invitation afterward or if you really want to “mail” greenly, use www.cocodot.com or www.paperlesspost.com to send creative invitations via the web.

Blinded by the Light:
Lighting can change the entire look and feel of your wedding, so use LED and incandescent lighting to brighten up your celebration by creating various moods and atmospheres while using less power and energy. If you opt for a daytime wedding, let color be your electricity. Vibrant colored linens, flowers and decor elements will illuminate any space naturally.

Recycled Rentals:
There are a number of areas when it comes to your wedding that you may not have even realized that you were being so conscientious. China, flatware and glassware is all reused and if cleaned with environmentally safe products, that is one step further in the right direction. Beautiful and unique linens from www.latavolalinen.com and www.wildflowerlinens.com get rented over and over again, and most grooms rent their tuxedos as well, all of these things are helping to make the world a more beautiful place. Brides and bridesmaids can also partake in the rental of designer fashions these days, through online sites like www.renttherunway.com and www.onenightaffair.com.

By making a few ecologically-aware choices, throwing a green wedding is much easier than most couples about to embark on a lifetime together even imagined. No matter if you are a Baby Boomer, a Gen X or Y’er or a Millennial, anyone can use these tips to start creating a better world that we can all share together.

Mr. C Hotel Photo Shoot in Beverly Hills

Hey Ya’ll,

Today, I’m sharing a few photos from a recent photo shoot my business partner Jaime and I did for Mr. C’s Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA.

We put together two distinct designs for this shoot, one for the mock-wedding ceremony outside and one for the reception inside the hotel.

For the ceremony, we went for a stripped-down, simple design, using only silver and gray Chiavari chairs and white flowers to dress up the hotel’s chic and clean, outdoor space:

For the reception, we mixed light with dark and feminine with masculine, to create an elegant space filled with pops of blues and pinks!

What do you think of these designs? Let me know in the comment section below.

‘Night of Comedy’ Event Design By YourBash!

Hey Ya’ll,

My YourBash! business partner and I had the pleasure of producing an event honoring George Shapiro last Saturday night, June 30th, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills.

Over 500 industry insiders and icons of comedy came out to celebrate “A Night of Comedy”, including the evening’s host Russell Brand.

The event featured performances by Sarah Silverman, Garry Shandling, Jerry Seinfeld and Jay Leno, just to name a few.

In order to create a unique backdrop for this special event, we transformed the classic ballroom into a comic playground with caricature-filled wall art of George’s fans and foundation supporters.

Our intent was to create a playful and fun atmosphere, so we set up interactive food stations where guests could create their own sliders, get custom coffee, snack on fresh-made doughnuts and churros, and order delicious sushi and sashimi.

These stations were the perfect way to get people up from their tables and talking about all of the yummy food. Next, we created centerpieces themed with all of George’s favorite things…

The centerpieces included “Ice Cream” cake pops, mini sluggers, L.A. Dodgers mini-helmets, a bottle of Don Julio tequila, margarita glasses filled with salt-water taffy, a Porsche beer glass and red converse tennis shoes.

To end the evening, Shapiro was presented with the ‘Lifetime of Bliss Award’ from the David Lynch Foundation to commend his all-around lifetime of bliss and contributions to film, comedy and friends.

What do you think of our playful design? Let me know in the comment section below.

And finally, I can hardly believe it, but tomorrow is the Fourth of July! I hope you will share your photos if you’re planning to host an Independence Day party (Click HERE for a few of my festive red, white, and blue party tips!). Have a safe holiday, everyone!

Friday Favorites: Coral and Fuchsia!

Hey Ya’ll,

TGIF! I have been living it up in Vegas, but I am ready for a relaxing weekend at home. Until then, I’m dedicating today’s post to two equally bright, fun and cheerful colors for summer: Coral and Fuchsia!

I was shopping at Target the other day and they had a ton of stylish platters and summer entertaining products in this color combo, so I knew that it was time to make this a Friday Favorite.

As you can see from the photo above, we used coral and raspberry for my business partner Jaime’s wedding. Now, five years later, this color combination is making a come back!

When looking for accent colors, ivory is a great addition to play around with and gold makes for the perfect metallic sparkle.

I love this combo because it is bold and vibrant and makes a huge impact while still remaining feminine, which is great for a summer wedding.

If you are trying to make decisions about about what flowers to use, this combination offers so many choices from the “Queen of Flowers” the peonies (pictured above), dahlias the size of a dinner plate, classic roses or orange calla lilies.

Last but not least, if you’re looking for a dessert that goes with this color combination, I highly recommend the Woman’s Day recipe that I found via Ceci New York (pictured above):

Orange-Raspberry Dreamsicle Cake

Ingredients:
2 pkg (13 oz each) coconut macaroons
3 cups (1 1/2 pt) raspberry sherbet
2 pt vanilla ice cream
3 cups (1 1/2 pt) orange sherbet

Directions:

  1. Line a 13 x 9 x 2-in. pan with foil, letting foil extend about 2 in. above pan at both ends. Lightly coat with nonstick spray.
  2. Line bottom of the pan with macaroons; press to flatten and form a layer. Freeze 20 minutes, or until firm. Meanwhile, refrigerate raspberry sherbet and 1 pt vanilla ice cream to soften slightly.
  3. Drop spoonfuls of softened sherbet and ice cream into crust, alternating flavors and packing them down as you go. Freeze 2 hours, or until firm.
  4. Repeat with orange sherbet and remaining vanilla ice cream. Freeze 30 minutes to set, then swirl surface decoratively. Freeze 6 hours, or until hard, and serve, or wrap airtight and freeze up to 2 weeks.
  5. To serve: Lift foil by ends onto cutting board; remove foil. Cut in 9 bars; cut bars in half diagonally to make wedges.

Let me know if you attempt this recipe, it sounds absolutely delicious! Thanks, Ceci.

YourBash! Featured in BizBash!

Hey Ya’ll,

Last weekend, my YourBASH! business partner and I designed a wedding themed garden party for kids and their parents to celebrate the Hub’s world premiere screening of “My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic” season-two finale, “A Canterlot Wedding.”

Since the party was for mostly little girls and their parents, wee decided to go with a cute pink and purple palette. Check it out:

How cute are these mini-wedding cakes we had for the kids to decorate?
