How to Personalize Your Wedding with Lighting

Hey Ya’ll,

Happy hump day! I hope you all had a fabulous Labor Day weekend. Let me know what you were up to over the holiday in the comment section below. Today’s tip, as featured by Wedding Bells magazine, is all about personalizing your wedding through lighting.

Lighting changes everything. The type of lighting you choose is a huge factor in setting the mood for both your ceremony and your reception. Be creative with the lighting above your guests…

If you’re going for a romantic, vintage-feel, candles are a beautiful choice. They light up the space in such a natural way, and so the more candles to illuminate the room, the better!

If you want to take a modern approach, LED lighting that can change color throughout the evening is a great choice.

Use this type of lighting to create fun and different vibes as you change from speeches to food to dancing.

For a rustic wedding or any reception that takes place outdoors, consider twinkling lights or glowing lanterns hung from the rafters or surrounding trees.

For a green option, you can even use solar powered lighting or upcycle old mason jars on your wedding day!

These are just a few of the simple ways that you can light up your wedding ceremony and reception in a way that its uniquely YOU!

Geometric Pop: Design No. 5 from My Hotel Del Coronado Photo Shoot

Hey Ya’ll,

I’m back with another fabulous design from our Hotel Del Coronado photo shoot!

La Tavola’s Deco Robin’s Egg linen is fresh, young and vibrant, so it was the perfect juxtaposition against the Pacific Ocean’s landscape and the historic architecture of the Hotel Del Coronado.

The modern and simple lines accented in graphic and effervescent blue, citron green and coral are inspired by summer’s ripest fruits like limes, papaya, oranges, melons and the cooling, yet refreshing color of ice.

This wedding will make you smile, maybe even giggle while you take in the long robins egg blue boxes full of colorful mounds of floral texture as they cascade down the glass top tables and are flanked by lime green Chesterfield couches. It creates a whisper among the guests and can stand alone without the assistance of lighting to make the colors pop.

Sunbeams danced off of the whimsical bold colors under the pulsating sun. All in all, I think this wedding makes a statement and sets a trend all its own… it’s pure geometric pop!

Friday Favorites: Aqua + Kelly Green!

Hey Ya’ll,

Today’s Friday Fav is a unique color combo that I’m in LOVE with for Summer 2012 weddings! It’s fresh, vibrant, and cool: Aqua and Kelly Green!

I have always been a huge fan of Kelly Green, for some reason it makes me happy, it is a bold color and reminds me of summer.  With the popularity of using neighboring colors on the color wheel to create an ombre effect, I thought that Aqua was the perfect hue to accompany Kelly Green.

Michael Miller (see below), makes the perfect table linen for an Aqua and Kelly Green event:

I was very surprised when I decided to pair these two colors how difficult it was to find them used in a wedding or even any type of decor item, but by looking at the collage of the colors together, I think they compliment each other nicely and create a really fun pallet for a wedding or any type of celebration, especially as summer is quickly approaching, the trees are in full bloom, everyone is headed to the beach or a pool for memorial day and these two colors just keep turning up everywhere… but not necessarily together.

If you are planning a wedding or party and looking for that third accent color, especially for flowers, white is the perfect neutral color to accompany this eye-catching combination. You can never go wrong with white… it is timeless and tasteful, clean and refined.

Another color that is a perfect complement to these fun and flirty colors is pink, either pale or hot pink will make a statement and give your event a preppy and vivid ambiance.

Friday Favorites: Black & White

black and white
Hey Ya’ll,
I have always been a fan of black and white, especially when it comes to photography.  A black and white photograph is always crisp, clean and refined. I love the way this color combo can feel as timeless as ‘Old Hollywood’…
Or as modern as contemporary art…

Photograph of musicians ‘She and Him’ by Dave Hill via http://www.mymodernmet.com

So if you decide that you want this color palette for your wedding, you’re in luck because these colors can be used in many different ways… I like to think of black and white as the chameleon duo of the design world!

Black Tie Wedding Design via districtbrideguide.com

Traditionally, black and white are considered the perfect color scheme for a formal evening wedding. You know the drill: the bride wears white, the groom wears a traditional black tux, and the guests are usually given warning that the affair will be a formal “black tie” event. However, these colors also have the ability to create a casual and whimsical environment for a wedding that would take place during the day.

Here are a few of my favorite black and white linens:

Black, White & Red color palette via http://insideweddings.com

Maybe you’re looking to create a formal event with dining and dancing? A black and white design will be elegant, romantic and beautiful, but if that is not your style, turn up the volume with a pop of color. Red is the perfect accent color to complement a black and white design, but that color combination has been done, and redone and done again!

Black, White & Turquoise color palette via http://www.onewed.com

So, I suggested adding a splash of hot pink, maybe even kelly green or a gorgeous turquoise to give your reception some pizazz and make a bold statement that may be unexpected. In the end, the great thing about black and white is that they are truly timeless, so no matter when you’re getting married or what the current fashion trends are,  you will always be able to find decor elements to make your wedding unique to your personality, on trend for the season, and items will be available in large quantities so that you can easily design and decorate for your wedding.

What’s your favorite accent color for a classic black and white design? Let me know in the comment section below.

Here are links to a few of my ‘Friday Favs’ featured in the collage at the top of the post:

Friday Favorites: Copper!

Hey Ya’ll,

I’m starting something new called “Friday Favorites”, which is just a fun way to share my current obsessions and design inspirations with you! As promised, and for my very first Friday Fav, today’s post is all about copper!

Copper!

Copper linens via linens.latavolalinen.com

As far as I’m concerned, copper is THE metallic accent for weddings this year. Gold and silver have been the standbys forever, but with new and unique copper items becoming more available, the ability to use copper throughout the year is much easier and more creative.

Copper bouquet refinerii.com

Copper has typically been used solely during the autumn, but now it can be used year round and looks good with succulents and greens during the summer or with hot pink and turquoise during the spring. I like copper as the new alternative when looking for that final accent color for the perfect design. Copper also looks great with burgundy and orange during the fall and you can easily mix it with gold and silver during the winter to create a metallic wonderland.

Also, click HERE to watch the segment I shot for The Knot TV last week, it’s full of fun tips including creative uses of copper for your 2012 wedding!

Modern Vintage: Design No.2 from My Hotel Del Coronado Photo Shoot

Hey Ya’ll,

As promised, here’s the next look I designed for my photo shoot at the Hotel Del Coronado: Modern Vintage!

Over the last few years, the idea of incorporating vintage elements into a wedding have been slowing sneaking their way into the foundation of wedding décor… but I know that 2012 is the year that this timeless and romantic theme will make a full explosion!
With that said, the idea for this reception incorporates one of my favorite linens from La Tavola called “New York”.  It is completely covered in blush sequins, but we are softening the sparkle with a Fiori Beaded Chestnut Organza overlay that incorporates a nod to an item that your grandmother may have had in her home many years ago!
The base for this inspiration is blush and brown, however, we pumped in some color with the use of aqua to provide a modern twist…

The centerpieces are a combination of lanterns and crystal candelabras surrounded by white hydrangea, blush and hot pink roses and to emulate the beaded branches on the overlay, brown manzanita branches have been strategically incorporated giving the look of them growing out of the overlay.
Double stacked pink macaroons with a skewer and beautifully printed place cards allow each guest a little pre-dinner treat as they find their seat before dining on a delicious menu created by the chef!

Though this look has a vintage feel, the results are organized and authentic with a modern twist!

YourBash! Featured in BizBash!

Hey Ya’ll,

Last weekend, my YourBASH! business partner and I designed a wedding themed garden party for kids and their parents to celebrate the Hub’s world premiere screening of “My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic” season-two finale, “A Canterlot Wedding.”

Since the party was for mostly little girls and their parents, wee decided to go with a cute pink and purple palette. Check it out:

How cute are these mini-wedding cakes we had for the kids to decorate?
